The Upland Hunters 2017 Christmas Gift Guide

Xmas2017

Christmas 2017 season is in full swing! Hopefully, by now, you have completed the bulk of your Christmas shopping for your family and friends… there may be a handful of people on your list that you still need to get a gift for. Like that mooch of a cousin you only see at a funeral, every few years (and happens to need a few bucks for an investment they are trying to score). Or perhaps that lowly ol’ upland hunter in your life that is just so hard to shop for! Well, you are in luck! Well… at least I can help with your favorite upland hunter. You have a few days left of shopping…. here are some great ideas for the upland hunter in your life (or perhaps, some gifts for yourself)!

1). CJ Quail Calls/Top Knot Quail Calls $10 – $30

cjcalls

The Johnson brothers have been putting out some quality Valley and Gambel’s Quail calls recently! These are great calls for all hunters but I highly recommend these calls for hunters who hunt without a dog especially! Chris Johnson makes several versions of his 3D printed calls, including a miniature “.410” version and his newest creation, the “Echo”, which is his take on the versatile chamber call. You can contact Chris through his Instagram account to order your call: https://www.instagram.com/cjquailcalls/

Kevin Johnson II creates his own unique version of the original call design, only in a high quality acrylic. Kevin machines these calls from durable acrylic in a variety of colors. These calls are the same quality as high end duck calls. Contact him at https://www.instagram.com/kevin_johnsonll/ and pick one of these calls up!

2). Clenzoil CLP $6.99 and up https://www.clenzoil.com/

Clenzoil

Clenzoil has produced one of the best CLP’s in the market today. My personal favorite is the “Foaming” action CLP, which makes cleaning shotgun barrels a breeze after a day of shooting in the field. They offer a variety of bottle sizes up to and including bulk sizes. Take care of that investment, your upland gun.

3). Sage & Braker Mercantile Bore Cleaning Kit $19.95 https://sageandbraker.com/

SageBraker

Sage & Braker offers this nifty bore snake that eliminates the need for patches and the frustration of using and storing cleaning rods. These cleaning kits (offered in a variety of calibers and gauges) are convenient and small enough to take with you anywhere when you go shooting or when you are out in the field. No gun case should be without one!

4). OnX Hunt Maps Subscription $29.99 – $99.99 https://www.onxmaps.com/hunt-app

OnX

OnX  Maps has changed the game for hunters, making scouting and mapping out your next hunt a breeze! Along with GPS chips, they now offer app subscriptions if you own a smartphone! There are single state options, as well as 50 state options. Be sure where hunting land and private land lines begin and end as easy as pie!

5). Copper Upland Supply Hunting Accessories $15 and up http://copperuplandsupply.bigcartel.com/

Copper

Copper Upland Supply offers quality accessories for the upland hunter and his trusty companion, the bird dog. These items are beautifully crafted and are true art pieces! Take a look at their upland lanyards, fobs, leads and their ever so popular locator bells which can be customized for your favorite pooch!

6).  Filson Mesh Game Bag $145 https://www.filson.com/

Filson

Filson has offered high quality merchandise for the craftsman, outdoorsman and upland hunter alike. If you seek quality in the upland fields, Filson should be on your list. The new Filson Mesh Game Bag keeps that minimalist approach of the original Filson Tin Game Bag, but improves upon that design by offering pouches for water bottles. Perfection.

7). Irish Setter Wingshooter (894) Boots $194.99 http://www.irishsetterboots.com/

Boots

These are hands down some of the best upland boots in the market. Period. Comfortable. Supportive. Designed to take a beating in the uplands. Backed by Red Wings guarantee. The Wingshooter is waterproof, thanks to its built in membrane. There is also an insulated version, if you happen to trudge out in the snow for your birds.

8). RST Shot Shells $Varies http://www.rstshells.com/

RST

What upland hunter would turn away quality ammo as a gift? RST produces high quality ammo for a variety of gauges and sub-gauges as well as Bismuth shot ammo for those upland hunters that take their priceless vintage guns into the field, but require non-lead alternatives.

9). 702 Knife & Tool Model 3 “Bird & Trout” Knife $135

model3

Trevor Markwell is a talented knife maker based out of Nevada. He creates a variety of different knives for outdoorsman and even chefs. His take on the small game knife is his very own Model 3 “Bird & Trout” Knife, which features 1095 tempered high-carbon steel, brass pins and your choice of selected wood scales. This is a high quality knife and looks great to boot! Connect with Trevor through his Instagram account at https://www.instagram.com/702knifeandtool/ and get in contact with him about making you a Model 3!

10). Remington 870 Express Shotgun $417 (MSRP) https://www.remington.com/

870

Remington has been mass-producing the 870 pump gun since the 1950’s and is arguably the most common shotgun in American homes. There is a reason why this workhorse of a shotgun has been around this long. Reliability. Rugged Reliability! The 870 is a tank. The Remington Express continues that tradition of reliability as the no frills version of the 870 family of shotguns. It is the perfect field gun, backup gun, or first time upland hunter’s gun. You cannot go wrong!

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year! God bless and Happy Hunting!

    • Yes, sir! These 870’s go for way cheaper than MSRP if you shop around! I got mine at Bass Pro for not much more than that! Too bad California Walmart’s don’t sell firearms!
