The Upland Hunter’s Gift Guide – Christmas 2019

The Christmas season is here. And that means my wife and all of my family are saying it’s hard to shop for me and they are scrambling to find me a proper gift. My jaw drops every time I hear this. Like. Do you guys even know me? I’m the upland hunter in the family! I’ll take the Filson Upland Vest, a box of ammo (or two), some nifty merino wool hiking socks, and I even enjoy some beef jerky or a summer sausage in my stocking (those are great for long days in the field, by the way)! Heck, if you’re feeling generous you can buy me a nice new shotgun from one of those brands like Beretta or Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company! Hell, I’m easy!

To make things even easier! I accept gift cards from various retailers where I can buy upland hunting gear!

The fact remains, many people who shop for upland hunters like you and I probably are completely lost when they walk into a Cabela’s or thumb through the Filson catalog (I guess the dog-eared pages are not subtle enough?). “Normal” people will not get why or where to start. Well, as always, I am here to help you out! E-mail this list to your loved ones or casually leave it open on your browser (this works best if you leave it open on all browsers on everybody’s phones, laptops, and tablets in your home, by the way)! Here’s your 2019 Upland Hunters Christmas Gift Guide!

1). Birdstrap Leather Company Arapaima Shell Bag Double ($395)

Shell bags are fantastic accessories, especially in high-volume shooting scenarios such as the gun-club or in the dove field. With Birdstrap Leather Company’s reputation for designing beautiful leather accessories that are useful in the field, they knocked it out of the park with their Arapaima Shell Bag. The double pocketed shell bag has a main pouch for two boxes of shells and incorporates a smaller pouch that is great for accessories or maybe a few extra shells. Made of beautifully exotic Arapaima leather, this a great conversation piece, work of art and a handy accessory all in one! Find it here!

2). Duck Camp Lightweight Upland Shirt – Long Sleeve ($89)

Duck Camp’s dedication to producing the best apparel for wing-shooters is very evident in their Long Sleeve Lightweight Upland Shirt! I personally own this shirt and it is one of the lightest, most comfortable and coolest wearing shirts I have ever owned! I hunt primarily in the west and south/west and temperatures typically do not drop until later in the season for me. This is the perfect shirt to help me stay cool. Works well when you layer it too! Filson and Danner Boots. If these two names don’t go naturally together, I don’t know which two would! Filson has long supplied working-class and hunting provisions since 1897 and teaming up with Danner Boots has produced one of the most sought after pairs of boots on the market today! These quality Danner boots feature Gortex lining, tough Filson Oiled Tin Cloth, and grabby Vibram soles. A camo version is also available. Find it here!

I like wearing gloves in the field for a couple of reasons. They protect my hands from the elements and pokey stuff like thorns and briars and they keep my sweaty palms off of my vintage shotgun. Gloves are a must for me. The Orvis Uplander Shooting gloves are made of supple sheepskin, giving the wearer protection while not compromising finger sensitivity and dexterity. Find it here!
